A rescued kangaroo is considered a dog

When Ashley Stewart and his family rescued a baby kangaroo named Dusty two years ago, they did not expect to see a third “dog” in their lives.

Dusty’s mother was injured and died in a traffic accident. Knowing that the joy of the orphan would not survive, they brought him home to their farm in Wittenum Hills, Western Australia.

The kangaroos survived and met two of my family dogs, Rosie Collie and Lily, the golden retriever. The Dogs and Dusty get along very well and the trio all play and sleep together.

Dusty loves to hang out with dogs so much that Dusty’s family had to buy a third dog bed because “Ro is going to steal one of the dogs.”

Ashley said that Lily is especially fond of kangaroos and that Dusty loves them as much as his mother.

Ashley said:

“He thinks Lilly is his mum, he’s always grooming her, they’re always together and if Lilly goes out of the yard he pines for her and sort of hops up and down the fence until he’s let out to go with her.”
