The Bobcat is so lucky to be alive after getting stuck on train tracks while trying to enjoy a meal.
Kobe Red spotted the wildcat early this morning on train tracks near the Canadian Trail, a town in southeastern British Columbia.
Reed is a railroad inspector and told Radio West on CBC that he noticed the cat’s hind paws were frozen on the rails.
The cat had caught a duck, but while she ate it on the bars, the glued-on bobcat froze with water in the metal.
Reid wrote on Facebook that the Bobcat “was enjoying his (the duck) breakfast and was frozen on the train”.
Reed said he and his friends initially tried to cover the animal with a coat, but the bobcat didn’t like it.
They videotaped them and tried to warm up the cat.
Sarah Benton, presenter on CBC Radio West, said the bobcat was not “the cutest cat you see in the pictures … it whistled and purred at us”.
The workers called their boss, who brought a bucket of warm water to rescue the cat. It took almost an hour to carefully remove the bobcat from the splint.
Upon his release, Reid said the bobcat was reluctant to leave dinner, but the group of men frightened the cat and tossed the duck’s carcass on the side of the railroad tracks.
The bobcat was lucky enough to have men passing by, as a train flew just 30 minutes after being freed. You can hear Reed’s full interview on animal rescue here.
